
Regulations Trento Film Festival 2008 - 26.04/04.05 - 2008
Art. 1
The “International Film Festival of Mountains and Exploration Città di Trento” cultural association, composed of the Italian Alpine Club, the City of Trento and the City of Bolzano, will be holding the 56th TrentoFilmfestival from 26 April to 4 May 2008. The TrentoFilmfestival offers an occasion for presenting and promoting the world's films and videos of every kind and duration on mountain, adventure and exploration subjects.
Art. 2
Entries may include films, documentaries, fiction films and cartoons that:
- contribute to the knowledge and conservation of the mountains by highlighting their symbolic value and portraying their human, historical and social reality;
- portray the most important aspects of human, cultural and technical adventure in mountaineering;
- promote the environmental conservation and sustainable development of mountain areas;
- pursue and promote the knowledge of land, water and space;
- portray the various disciplines and modern evolutions of alpine sports.
Films produced before 2006 or presented in previous years of the Festival are not eligible for the competition.
Art. 3
The 56th TrentoFilmfestival comprises various sections:
- International Competition
- Out of Competition
- Informative Sections
- Tributes and Retrospectives
- Special Programmes
Art. 4
Admission to the competition and other sections is at the absolute discretion of the Festival Board assisted by a Selection Commission. At the end of the Festival a selection of the films will be presented in Bolzano and Milan as an integral part of the 56th TrentoFilmFestival. The dates will be announced in April 2008 in the general programme of the Festival.
Art. 5
The films admitted to the competition will be judged by an International Jury that may award the following prizes:
a)Gran Premio “Città di Trento” - Gold Gentian and 5000 Euro for the best film of all, possessing high artistic qualities, that corresponds to the cultural aims pursued by the Festival.
b)Italian Alpine Club Prize Gold Gentian and 3000 Euro for the best film on mountains and mountaineering.
c)City of Bolzano Prize - Gold Gentian and 3000 Euro for the best film on sport, exploration, or adventure.
d)Silver Gentian and 1500 Euro for the best short film.
e)Silver Gentian and 1500 Euro for the best television production.
f)Silver Gentian and 1500 Euro for the best artistic technical contribution.
A Jury Prize may also be awarded.
All the feature films in competition and out of competition presented during the Festival will participate in the Audience Prize consisting in a work of art. The Official Prizes will be presented during the closing ceremony, or may be collected from the Festival office. The winners will be announced by the International Jury at midday on Saturday 3 May 2008.
Art. 6
Other recognitions will be awarded by associations or institutions outside the Filmfestival. All the films presented at the Festival will compete for these recognitions. Each recognition will be awarded by a specific Jury and will consist of a sum of 1000 euro, or a work of art of equivalent value. These recognitions may be awarded also to films that have won official prizes and they will be presented by the promoters when the winners of the film competition are announced.
Art. 7
The copies for the selection, in VHS format (Pal, Secam or NTSC) or DVD, together with the completed and signed entry form, and the requested information material (see entry form) must arrive not later than 31 January 2008 if produced in the years 2006 or 2007, and by 29 February 2008 if produced in the year 2008. The entry forms must be accompanied by a brief description of the film, the curriculum and filmography of the director and at least two high quality photographs of the film presented. The aforesaid material should preferably be in electronic format on CD-Rom. All foreign films presented should be provided with subtitles in Italian, or be accompanied by a dialogue list in Italian, English or German. The written version of the dialogues and/or subtitles should be forwarded preferably by email (mail@trentofestival.it) with the title of the film and the words “2008 competition entry” clearly indicated in the subject.
The dispatch of the entry material is at the participant's expense. Please write on the package “Senza valore commerciale, per soli scopi culturali” (Unmarketable products for cultural purposes only) for customs clearance.
Films from Italy and other European Union countries should be delivered by hand or sent to the following address:

Films from non-EU countries must be sent to the same address together with all the documents necessary for customs clearance (pro-forma invoice).
Each film-maker or producer is responsible for the content of their film and, on entering the Festival, must declare all obligations have been fulfilled towards third parties derivable from the use of copyright material.
The return of films not accepted by the Festival must be requested not later than October 2008. The cost of dispatch will be at the applicant's expense. The method of restitution and payment must be agreed beforehand with the Festival offices.
Art. 8
Texts and images of the films included in the sections listed in art. 3 of these regulations will be used for publication in the catalogue, on the Festival's Internet site and for any other media in relation to the work and at the discretion of the Festival. The TrentoFilmfestival reserves the right to use clips (maximum 2') from the film on television (also via satellite) or via Internet for promotion purposes.
Art. 9
All the selected films admitted to the Competition, included in the Informative sections, or competing for the Audience Prize, must be dispatched at the participant's expense and must reach Trento not later than 14 April 2008. The Italian films admitted to the competition must arrive by the same date provided with subtitles in English or accompanied by a dialogue list in English. The films selected for screening should be sent in 35mm, 16mm, Digital Betacam (PAL or NTSC) or Betacam SP (PAL or NTSC) or Mini DV format. Hire rates cannot be claimed for the screenings of selected films. All copies of the selected films, from Italy and other EU and non- EU countries, should be sent to the address given in article 7. Please do not forget to write “Senza valore commerciale, per soli scopi culturali” on the package for customs clearance. Each dispatch should be accompanied by a pro-forma invoice, a list of the packages, correct shipping papers (with the number of reels, length of film in metres, title and number of video cassettes of each film). The dispatch of the copy and method used must be confirmed by fax (0039/0461/237832) or e-mail (mail@trentofestival.it) at the Festival Offices, specifying the title of the film, number of packages, date and dispatch coordinates (if by air give number of AWB).
The copies sent to the Festival for screening, in accordance with art.12 of these regulations, will be returned by registered post, after 9 May 2008, on the specific request of the film-maker sent via mail@trentofestival.it with the exact return address.
Art. 10
The films and videos included in one of the sections specified in art. 3 of these regulations will be insured against any possible damages with an “all risk” insurance policy (including loss or theft of the copy) taken out by the Festival for the period in which the copies will remain at its disposal. In the case of loss or damage, the responsibility of the Festival will nevertheless be limited to the value of reprinting the copy according to the current prices in Italy. The Festival Board does not assume any responsibility for
damages the films may suffer during transport.
Art. 11
All film-makers, producers and distributors of the selected and prize-winning films and videos of the 56th TrentoFilmfestival are invited to show the official Festival logo (available in the Festival offices) and any prizes received in the film credits, promotional and press material and on any official web sites.
Art. 12
All entrants whose films are accepted for the competition, or are included in the informative sections and presented in the catalogue, should leave a copy of the film, not in VHS format, for the Festival's historical film library. This copy will be used exclusively for internal consultation and for non-profit cultural purposes to promote the Festival. Competitors are also invited to sign a form, attached to the letter of admission, permitting the noncommercial use of the films for cultural events organised in collaboration with mountaineering associations, schools and cultural institutions. For any use or distribution against payment the Festival promises to contact the film-maker immediately to agree on a fair price should the film-maker accept the proposal.
Art. 13
All competitors are invited, on terms to be agreed, to consent to the release of a copy of the film to the Italian Alpine Club for its film library. The Italian Alpine Club will use the copy exclusively for cultural screenings on a non-profit basis.
Art. 14
To ensure that personal data are treated in conformity with the right of privacy and personal identity, all communications will be made in accordance with the Legislative Decree no.196 of 30.06.2003 and subsequent amendments and additions (see entry form). Therefore the Festival informs you that all personal data supplied will also be processed by means of electronic systems in compliance with the provisions of the law set out in the Italian Legislative Decree no.196/2003. The purpose of collecting and processing the data supplied is to facilitate the exchange of information between people involved in cultural, social, cinematographic and mountaineering fields. This information will be made available to third parties only if consent on the entry form has been signed. The signer can exercise the rights in the Legislative Decree no. 196/2003 and request in particular:
- confirmation of the existence of his/her personal data and communication thereof and its origin in intelligible form, as well as the logic and purpose on which the processing of this data is based;
- the cancellation, transformation into anonymous form or block of the data processed in breach of the law;
- updates, corrections or additions of the data. Furthermore, the signer has the right to prohibit, in whole or in part, for legitimate reasons, the processing of his/her personal data. However, in the absence of consent, the Filmfestival will not be able to carry out the operations or services relevant to its cultural activities.
Art. 15
The dispatch of the entry form to the Filmfestival implies full acceptance of all the articles in these regulations. It is the responsibility of producers, distributors or other subjects presenting the film to be legitimately authorised to enter the film in the Filmfestival. The Director of the Filmfestival has the right to decide all cases not provided for in these regulations, as well as exceptions to them in special and well-motivated cases. For any dispute arising in connection with any article in these regulations the original version in the Italian language shall always apply.
