Climbers and Grimpeurs: Fausto Coppi and Gino Bartali – the eternal rivals

Generations of men from different backgrounds have seen the mountains as a challenge, a way to measure their courage and to prove their worth. Some face them with crampons and picks and others with their bare hands; some pedal their souls out.

Cyclists Gino Bartali and Fausto Coppi did just this on their epoch-making duel, which fuelled the legend of cycling and boosted its popularity. Their heroic cycling battles were set against the beautiful backdrop of the mountains.

Coppi died fifty years ago and Bartali about ten years ago. Commemorating them both at the TrentoFilmfestival means honouring the mountains through their incredible achievements as men and as champions.
