Yesterday, today, tomorrow: the challenge of living in the mountains.

Annibale Salsa, Geremia Gios, Alberto Folgheraiter and Filippo Zolezzi talk about the transformations in progress in the Alpine environment.

Presentation of the book Oltre la soglia del tempo - Il Trentino di chi è partito, la terra di chi è rimasto by Alberto Folgheraiter published by Curcu & Genovese. In his book Alberto Folgheraiter takes his readers back to the Trento of the late 19th and early 20th centuries. He tells today’s young people, who live in times of immigration, how life was in the valleys at a time when subsistence living led to an exodus at the end of the 1800s. The book can be divided into two parts: the first is on local traditions and customs and the second on emigration to America, which was based on the author’s visit to the States last year. In collaboration with Tra le rocce e il cielo.

Alberto Folgheraiter was born in 1952; he is a journalist and head of programming at the Trento branch of Italy’s State broadcaster RAI. He has written about fifteen books. He is a fellow of the Accademia degli Accesi per le lettere.

Geremia Gios is a Full Professor of Agricultural Economics at the University of Trento’s Faculty of Economics. Between 1992 and 1998, he was President of Istituto Agrario di San Michele all’Adige. He is Mayor of the Municipality of Vallarsa.

Annibale Salsa is an anthropologist, lecturer in Philosophical Anthropology at the University of Genoa, and an expert in mountain culture. He has been General Chairman of the Italian Alpine Club (CAI) since 1994.

Filippo Zolezzi is a journalist; he is also the creator and technician of website Alpinia.net.
